Lakhimpur Kheri School Shooting: Teacher Shot Dead, Gunman Dies
A 26-year-old schoolteacher was shot dead inside a private school in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday, September 21, before the alleged attacker died by suicide, police said.
The shooting happened at Children’s Academy School in Lakhimpur Kheri, triggering panic among staff, students and parents at the school.
Police identified the teacher as Nishat Fatima. The alleged attacker was identified in reports as Saud Ansari, 28. He reportedly entered the school carrying a firearm and encountered the teacher inside the premises.
According to police information reported by Indian Express, the two were known to each other and investigators are examining a possible failed romantic relationship as a motive. That remains an investigative lead, not an established motive.
Shooting triggers panic at school
The incident occurred as students and guardians were present around the school. Indian Express reported that roughly 100 students were leaving the school when the gunshots caused panic.
Police said the alleged attacker subsequently shot himself with a firearm and died.
Investigators have begun examining the circumstances of the shooting, including the school’s CCTV footage, while forensic teams collected evidence from the scene.
The police investigation is ongoing.
